Opportunity area:
Manual ID card creation caused long delays and bottlenecks. Automating the process freed up design resources and improved turnaround time.
Goal:
Automating our ID card creation process to speed up onboarding.
My role:
I worked closely with Kolapo Oni, the Web Design Lead, to brainstorm solutions. I led the visual design efforts, leveraging Figma to create the user interface, develop a prototype, and facilitate user testing and feedback sessions.
My approach:
- Mapped the end-to-end ID card process—from onboarding to printing—to identify bottlenecks.
- Met with the Web Design Lead and Head of Design to present the idea.
- Shared a sample design and proposed a web app to automate the workflow.
- Secured buy-in and moved into the design phase.

“Full prototype of the ID card generator”
Next steps after designs were done:
- Collected feedback via Loom videos from two team members using the prototype, both found it intuitive.
- Conducted a live walkthrough with the Chief People Officer and team to demo key features and gather more input.
- Discussed access control during testing; the team recommended adding a login screen for secure ID card generation.
Takeaways
A key challenge was balancing security with accessibility, which we solved by implementing Google authentication and restricting access to the People team. This project freed the design team from a manual task and continues to scale with FLW, growing from 314 to 910 employees during my time there.
